Grape Vineyard

April 30, 2009

Vineyard in Sonoma County, California. Was standing on a low spot of ground and the lines going up in the background are rows of new vines planted on a hill with the backlighting making them look like dots. Used a Nikon F4 film camera, 300mm lens, Fuji transparency film, and Nikon Coolscan 9000 scanner.

A friend of mine just had this guitar custom built for him by Michael Tuttle and wanted me to take a few pictures of it. Used a Nikon D3, 55mm micro lens, one 300 watt Arri fresnel with a blue gel on the background, a 600 watt Arri fresnel backlighting the guitar from one side, and a bunch of foam core sheets to bounce the backlight onto the front of the guitar. In other words there were no lights directly hitting the front of the guitar, only bounced light from reflectors. Thought the barn door would make an interesting background from what is normally seen in pictures of guitars. A friend in Virginia gave it to me and it is over 120 years old.

Used a Nikon F4 film camera, Fuji transparency film, Nikon Coolscan 9000 scanner, and the “Selenium Tone” color preset in Adobe Lightroom which turned the color slide a monochromatic blue color and added a lot of  vignette darkening of the corners.

The Well

April 17, 2009

This is a well in a back yard in the historic area of Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. I used a Widelux rotating lens panoramic camera which when used close to an object will curve it, and that is why the picket fence looks curved instead of straight. Scanned the Fuji transparency film with a Nikon Coolscan 9000.
