Footprints

Footprints in dried and cracked mud. Used a Linhof 4×5 view camera and Ascor strobe in a large light box low to the ground to rake light across the surface to bring definition to the sunken footprints.

  1. Yes, there are no special effects in the photo. What you see is what was there. The question is…where was it?

Actually it is a studio shot. I had a large tray about 5 foot square made out of plywood that was several inches deep. Got some good clean dirt and mixed it with water to form mud and poured it into the tray. After it set up for a while someone made the footprints, then I placed an electric space heater next to the tray overnight and the next morning it had dried out and had the cracks in the surface. The photograph was made for an editorial magazine article.

  2. Well I would tell…but…that person has entered into the “Witness Protection Program” and it would endanger their life if I revealed their true identity.
